On May 14, the United States officially opened its embassy in Jerusalem, just months after President Trump formally recognized the holy city as Israel’s capital. The opening took place 70 years to the day after Israel declared its independence in 1948 and President Harry Truman recognized Israel as an independent country. Several other countries are now planning and preparing to follow the U.S. in moving their embassies to Jerusalem.
