The Arizona Supreme Court heard oral arguments in the case of a small wedding invitation business and the city of Phoenix, whose interpretation of its ordinance, City Code Section 18-4(B), requires the business to create artwork that conflicts with their convictions. Although the business owners, Joanna Duka and Breanna Koski of Brush & Nib Studio, will serve anyone regardless of sexuality, they will not produce custom messages supporting same-sex marriage because of their Christian beliefs.
“When we reflect God’s creativeness in small ways through our art, it reveals something about Him,” Koski said outside the court. “That is why we cannot separate our faith from our artist creativity.”
