First Liberty, Florida Attorney General File Suit Against Jane’s Revenge

Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody and Christian legal group First Liberty Institute (FLI) are suing Jane’s Revenge and their associated vandals for targeting and attacking pro-life pregnancy resource centers in Florida.

On March 29, First Liberty joined a lawsuit filed by Moody against Caleb Freestone and Amber Smith-Stewart, alleged members of the far-left group Antifa and the radical pro-abortion group Jane’s Revenge.

Moody and First Liberty contend that Freestone and Smith-Stewart violated the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act by vandalizing three Florida pregnancy help centers after the leak last May of the draft opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which overturned the 1973 Roe v. Wade abortion ruling in late June. The suit seeks $170,000 in damages.

According to a press release at FirstLiberty.org, vandals spray painted threatening messages like “If abortions aren’t safe, neither are you,” firebombed life-affirming women’s health facilities; broke windows; doxed the staff, board and volunteers of pregnancy resource centers; and disrupted private events with supporters in an effort to intimidate those centers, damage their facilities and interfere with clients seeking to access their free services, the release said.

Specifically, the First Liberty suit seeks damages against Freestone and Smith-Stewart, of Jane’s Revenge, who allegedly vandalized their client, Heartbeat of Miami, with spray painted threats and hacked their way onto Heartbeat’s annual gala guest list, giving them access to the event—where they shouted obscenities; disparaged staff, volunteers, and supporters; and leafletted the venue with propaganda.

“That type of behavior is absolutely unacceptable,” said First Liberty Senior Counsel Jeremy Dys. “If you disagree with something, that’s fine. We’re in America. We’re allowed to disagree. What you’re not allowed to do is express that disagreement at the end of a crowbar or can of spray paint.

Those who target life-affirming reproductive health facilities must face the legal penalties Congress established for their crimes, Dys said. “No one should suffer violence for simply providing faith-based counseling and baby supplies to women and their babies. Violence is never a lawful response to disagreement.”

Moody referred to Antifa and Jane’s Revenge as criminal organizations and said they must answer for their crimes in Florida.

“I am taking action to hold their members accountable for attempting to intimidate and threaten law-abiding citizens in our state,” Moody said.
