Back in the sixties, Belfast was a dangerous place divided by barbed wire, barricades and sectarian violence.

In the midst of such strife, this young man found security in Christ. Listening to the Good News of God’s provision for sin through Christ’s death and resurrection, he came forward and committed his life to the Lord. Years later, he felt God’s call to the mission field and spent more than 25 years in Africa serving Christ.

One of the great joys of seeing men and women put their trust in Christ is knowing that this is just the beginning of a personal relationship with the Lord that will last forever. Born again by the regenerating work of the Holy Spirit, believers are eternally secure in the Savior’s love and care. Jesus said of those who follow Him in repentance and faith: “I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand” (John 10:28-29).

The believer’s eternal security rests on the once-for-all sacrifice of Christ for our sins. The Lord’s final words as He hung on Calvary’s Cross were the three most magnificent words ever uttered: “It is finished” (John 19:30). In dying for our sins and rising from the grave, Jesus Christ did all that is necessary for salvation. All we can do is turn from our transgressions and receive the gift of everlasting life through childlike faith.

The believer’s security amid life’s trials and tribulations on earth also rests in the loving care of our heavenly Father, who knows our needs and pledges to meet them “according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19).

Think of it this way: If God has provided everything we need for all eternity, He certainly can take care of our problems, anxieties and fears in this life. When the economy sours, or tragedy strikes, or family issues unsettle us, we have the sure and certain promises of God as our refuge and strong tower.

In the past five years, millions of people have surrendered to the Lord through our Crusades and My Hope television broadcasts. Not only have they “crossed over from death to life” (John 5:24), but they’ve begun a lifetime journey of faith that is anchored to the all-sufficient, saving Person and work of Jesus Christ.

When I see people come forward at our Crusade invitations, I rejoice at what God has done–and will continue to do–as they trust and rely on the Savior. “Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus” (Philippians 1:6).

Later this month, April 25-27, I will be Knoxville, Tenn., for a Crusade on the campus of the University of Tennessee. This summer, I will preach in Mexico and Romania, and this fall I will be in Charleston, S.C., and Taiwan. I would appreciate your prayers.
