This Sunday, May 19, Family Research Council’s (FRC) Tony Perkins along with other Christian leaders across the nation, including Franklin Graham, are calling on churches to show support for Israel by taking time to pray for the nation in the midst of its war against Hamas.
Pray For & Stand With Israel “is meant as a call for the Christian community to unite in prayer and stand in … support for Israel on Sunday, May 19,” and to allow time in their worship services to “pray for Israel’s peace, prosperity, and protection,” according to a press release from FRC.
Perkins, president of FRC, visited Israel and met with people affected by the Oct. 7 attack, as well as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The two men discussed challenges facing the nation.
“Prime Minister Netanyahu expressed an urgent need for Americans who support Israel to visibly show their support,” Perkins said, “We discussed the importance of solidarity and prayer as powerful expressions of support that can make a meaningful difference in the relationship between the United States and Israel.”
Franklin encouraged people to participate in the day of prayer, saying, “This is a critical period in Israel’s history. We look around us and see antisemitism raging. We see Iran’s recent attack. We remember the brutal slaughter of over 1,200 Jewish people on Oct. 7 and see 133 hostages still being held by Hamas, used as human shields to protect their wicked leadership.
“Please pray for Prime Minister Netanyahu,” Franklin said, “and all of Israel’s leadership as they go through these very dark days. Pray especially for the hostages and all those suffering as a result of the Oct. 7 attack. Most importantly, as the Bible, the Word of God, instructs us—pray for the peace of Jerusalem (Psalm 122:6).”
