Bible Study: The Blood of God’s Lamb

Bible Study: The Blood of God’s Lamb

When I was a little girl of about 8 years of age, I watched a movie on television that portrayed the life of Jesus.  When it was over, I slipped down on my knees beside my bed, deeply convinced that Jesus had died on the cross for me. I remember I desperately wanted Him to know His death was worthwhile; if for no one else, it was worthwhile for me. So I told Him I was sorry for my sin. I was sorry He had to die. I asked Him to forgive me of the wrong things I had done, to cleanse me with His blood and to come into my heart. He did. Ever since that day, I have tried to live my life in humble, heartfelt gratitude for the blood of God’s Lamb! These are some of the reasons why …

HIS BLOOD GUARANTEES MY SALVATION

  • What is the definition of salvation, especially in a spiritual or theological sense? Use the dictionary if necessary.
  • How were the Israelites saved when God’s judgment fell on Egypt? Exodus 12:21-23.
  • How are we saved today from God’s judgment that falls on sinners? Give phrases from John 3:16-17; Acts 4:12; Romans 5:9-11.
  • Are you saved? When did you apply the blood of God’s Lamb to the doorposts of your heart? Write out a brief testimony.
  • The day after the Israelites applied the blood of the lamb to the doorposts and lintels of their homes, do you think they knew they were saved?
  • Do you lack assurance of your salvation? If you do, come to the cross by faith in prayer, and claim the blood of Jesus to cover you. Write down the date and tell someone else what you have done.
  • What instructions does Romans 10:9-10 give that you need to follow in order to be assured that you are saved?
  • What additional insight into assurance does Hebrews 11:1 give?
  • If you have come to the cross and claimed the blood of God’s Lamb to save you from judgment, then your salvation is guaranteed. Thank Him for it now.

HIS BLOOD GUARANTEES MY JUSTIFICATION

  • What is the definition of justification, especially in a spiritual or theological sense? Use the dictionary if necessary.
  • Is the blood of Jesus sufficient in itself to justify any and all sinners? Acts 13:38-39; Romans 5:16-17.
  • How can sinners be justified? What one word holds the key? Give phrases from Romans 4:4-8; 5:1-2; Galatians 2:15-16; 3:10-14, 3:24; 5:4-6.
  • Note: Circumcision and keeping the law represents “good works” and self-effort.
  • Why do we, saved sinners who are under the blood of God’s Lamb, never have to fear facing a righteous, holy God in judgment? Romans 5:9; 8:29-39.
  • Are you afraid to meet God? If so, why? Name your fears. Now place them under the blood of God’s Lamb and receive His peace.

HIS BLOOD GUARANTEES MY PURIFICATION

  • What is the definition of purification, especially in a spiritual or theological sense? Use the dictionary if necessary.
  • What is the relevance of His blood to purity? Ephesians 1:7; Hebrews 9:22.
  • How essential is purity, and therefore the blood, to a right relationship with God? Hebrews 12:14.
  • Is purity optional for a follower of Jesus? Give phrases from Ephesians 1:4; 1 Thessalonians 4:3-8; 2 Timothy 1:8-9; 1 Peter 1:15-16.
  • What is the only way to obtain purity in God’s eyes? Hebrews 10:5-14; 1 John 1:7-10.
  • How important is purity in light of the imminent return of Jesus Christ? 2 Peter 3:10-12; 1 John 2:28; Titus 2:11-14.
  • Is there any sin you think His blood cannot purify? 1 John 1:7.
  • How holy and pure are you, not in comparison with others, but in God’s eyes?
  • Is there anything tarnishing your purity? An activity? a habit? a relationship? Name it.
  • Return to the cross in prayer now and ask God to cleanse you with the blood of the Lamb from whatever your impurity is.

HIS BLOOD GUARANTEES MY SANCTIFICATION

  • How is sanctification different from purification? What does it mean? Use the dictionary if necessary.

  • Is sanctification optional for a child of God? Leviticus 20:26.
  • What two types of useful vessels in God’s Kingdom are described in Romans 9:21? 2 Timothy 2:20-21? Which one best describes you?
  • How is Jesus praying for you? John 17:13-17.
  • How did He set the example? John 17:19; Hebrews 2:10-11 (NKJV).
  • Would those closest to you say that you are living a life that is useful to God and brings glory to Him?

HIS BLOOD GUARANTEES MY QUALIFICATION

  • What is the definition of qualification, especially in a spiritual or theological sense? Use the dictionary if necessary.
  • For what purpose and privilege are forgiven sinners qualified? Colossians 1:9-13.
  • List as many privileges and blessings as you can that are given to those who are under the blood of God’s Lamb, from Ephesians 1-2.

  • How critical is His blood to experiencing victory over sin, Satan and self? Revelation 12:10-11.
  • Explain to someone that God’s judgment for sin is coming—either at death or at His return—but that the blood of His Lamb guarantees eternal safety plus all spiritual blessings.
